Pra ser sincero, tenho um
tremendo receio quando vejo bandas escondendo suas identidades através de
máscaras ou elementos do gênero. Muitas vezes isso é bastante positivo e o foco
acaba sendo – pelo menos na teoria – mais forte nas músicas em si. Em alguns
casos, as alegorias servem para literalmente mascarar a falta de qualidade
musical. Eu já conhecia o trabalho do The Way Of Purity quando fiz uma resenha
para a extinta revista portuguesa Horns Up. “Equate” é seu trabalho mais
recente e o mais provocativo. Pouca informação é encontrada sobre a banda e
seus nomes ou nacionalidades são propositalmente escondidos. O grupo se
denomina militante da natureza e dos animais, abominando os seres humanos. A
arte da capa é bastante interessante e instigante, cheia de simbolismos. O som
é uma história a parte. Os caras conseguiram unir de tudo um pouco, fazendo uma
mistura difícil de digerir nas primeiras audições. Pra ter uma ideia, já
encontrei na internet os seguintes estilos para classificá-los: Crosscore, New
Wave Death Metal, Avant Garde Fusion Metal, e por aí vai. O fato é que fazem
sim uma fusão entre Black Metal, Metalcore, Melodic Death Metal, abusando de
teclados, vocais guturais e femininos puxados pro Rock/Gothic. Em
minha opinião, acho que acertaram em vários momentos e escorregaram em outros,
tornando o disco um pouco confuso e sem força quando ouvido na íntegra. O
timbre das guitarras está matador, bem como a produção e gravação. O trabalho é
no mínimo curioso e no fim das contas podemos constatar que inovar dentro do
Metal não é tão fácil quanto parece. Valeu a tentativa, quem sabe podem
conquistar novos fãs, sedentos por novidades e experimentalismos. 6/10

To be honest, I have a tremendous fear when I
see bands hiding their identities through masks or elements of the genre. Often
this is very positive and the focus ends up being in the songs - at least in
theory. In some cases, literally floats serve to mask the lack of musical
quality. I already knew the work of The Way Of Purity when I did a review for
the extinct Portuguese magazine Horns Up. "Equate" is the latest and
most provocative record so far. Little information is found about the band and
their names or nationalities are purposely hidden. The group is a militant of nature
and animals, loathing human beings. The artwork of the cover is very interesting and exciting, full of
symbolism. The sound is another part of the story. The group managed to put
together a bit of everything, doing a mixture difficult to digest in the first
auditions. To get an idea, i found over the Internet the following styles to
classify them: Crosscore, New Wave Death Metal, Avant-Garde Metal Fusion, and
so on. The fact is that they make rather a fusion between Black Metal,
Metalcore, Melodic Death Metal, abusing of the keyboards, guttural vocals and
female Rock/Gothic oriented. In my opinion, they did a great job at various
times and slipped in others, making the disc a bit confused and powerless when
heard in full. The guitar sound is killer as well as the production and
recording. The record is very curious and in the end we note that innovate
within the metal is not as easy as it sounds. Nice try, maybe they can acquire new
fans, hungry for new stuff and experimentalism. 6/10
